Being on a sports team these days certainly isn’t cheap; some families struggle just to get their kids to every game. If the team needs new jerseys, or funding to go on a trip, and the money isn’t readily available, there are some easy sports fundraising ways to collect some funds.
50/50 Raffle Fundraiser
This one is for the parents to take charge of because it’s based purely on cash and might be seen as gambling to some. Hold a 50/50 raffle at each game or at an event that you hold.
If you aren’t aware how this works, tickets are sold for a set price, or maybe more for a discount: For example $2 each, or 3 for $5. At the end of the night, pick one of the tickets out of a hat. If your ticket was pulled, you get half of the sale money! The other half goes to the team fundraising collection.
This is a fantastic fundraising idea, as nearly all people love the thought of winning that lump sum, and no matter what individual wins half, the team is the real winner.
Holiday Fundraising Sales
Hold a sale based on it any upcoming holiday. Sell pumpkin-shaped cookies, cupcakes with spider webs on them, or other scary treats for Halloween; ornaments, stockings and gingerbread for a Christmas fundraiser… you get the idea. Use your imagination and creativity here. People love to buy fun food!
The classic way that is tried, tested and true, is a lollipop fundraiser. Create these in all different shapes; usually in the shape of the ball used in your sport (for example, baseball lollipops or football lollipops). Sell these at school or, even better, have someone go through the stands at your games and sell them to the crowd. Everyone likes a tasty treat while watching a game and at fifty cents or a dollar each, remind them they are donating to your team too.
Another way to fundraise for your sports team is to sell chocolate door to door. Be sure to wear your team jersey and hat while selling. The moment people open the door they will instantly know what you want without you having to even speak. Most will rush off to get their purse or wallet right away!
Sports Fundraising Success
The number one secret to sports fundraising is to have fun and be passionate about it. When asking people for money, always smile! Also, convince them why they should donate. Tell them how well your team is doing, and what you hope to accomplish personally on the team and in your games.
